inflammatory & caution foods

foods to avoid when your health is an issue


Caution: these foods contain lectins and toxins that could be causing you health issues. 


Avoid foods packed in plastic if possible. Focus on whole foods and not packaged foods. Always store your food in glass or high grade stainless steel containers. The average person living in the US consumes approximately one credit card worth of microplastics each week. Microplastics can be found in processed food, seafood, and some grown foods. Your storage containers, especially baby bottles, and utensils must be glass or stainless steel to avoid toxins and microplastics. 


Avoid all Processed and Fried Foods: these foods can cause the worst health issues. 


Sugary drinks & Starchy Foods:

These food items are very bad for your gut health and can cause leaky gut. Leaky gut is the beginning cause of many health issues. 


  • All soda and sports drinks
  • All diet soda and drinks - Diet soda is worst for you even if you are diabetic. 
  • All Sugars
  • All artificial sweeteners 
  • Pasta
  • Rice - White is better than Brown
  • Potatoes - except Yams and sweet potatoes (not fried)
  • Potato chips and all similar products (baked or fried)
  • All breads - there are some made with special flours that are better, but limit intake. 
  • All tortillas and wraps - there are some made with special flours that are better, but limit intake.
  • All Pastries 
  • All flours - except - cauliflower and some others. Research how its made. 
  • All Crackers
  • All Cookies
  • All Cereals - Very bad, especially for children. 
  • Maltodextrin - is a compound of dextrin and maltose.


Vegetables: 

Not all vegetables are created equal. Most vegetables contain lectins. Lectins are the plant's defense mechanism. Lectins are proteins that can make people and animals feel ill or can cause death depending upon the plant. Lectins can cause dietary/health issues and/or inflammation throughout the body. This list shows the vegetables that could be causing you health issues. 


  • Kale - very high in heavy metals and pesticides. Don't eat raw. Cook and drain to remove the metals and toxins. Limit intake.
  • Peas
  • Sugar snap peas
  • All beans - including sprouts and peanuts. Yes peanuts are beans. 
  • All legumes
  • All lentils - if cooked with a pressure cooker you can kill the lectins and they will be safer to eat. 
  • Green beans
  • Chickpeas including Hummus 
  • Soy 
  • Tofu
  • Edamame 
  • Pea protein
  • Soy protein
  • Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) 


Nuts and Seeds: 

Some nuts and seeds are great for you and others can cause health issues. Everyone's body is different. 


  • Peanuts - yes they are beans,  just wanted to remind you.
  • Pumpkin
  • Sunflower
  • Chia
  • Cashews


Fruits: 

Some of these items people may call vegetables. Fruit contains seeds as vegetables do not. Most people think that the sugar or (fructose) in fruit because it's natural does not affect you in the same way. Myself  and others believe differently. If you are trying to lose weight, do not eat fruit. Fruit is designed to make you hold and store fat. Some fruits like tomatoes contain most of their lectins in the seeds and skin. This is why most Italians remove the skin and seeds before making their gravy.


  • Cucumbers
  • Zucchini
  • Pumpkins
  • All Squashes
  • All Melons
  • Eggplant
  • Tomatoes
  • All Peppers
  • Goji berries


Dairy: 

Most dairy products are loaded with lectins and hormones. This is why so many people have issues consuming dairy products. 


  • Cow Milk - is very bad for you! It is loaded with sugar.
  • All yogurt - pasture raised goat milk yogurt is the best if you must have yogurt. 
  • All ice cream and frozen yogurt- there are some alternatives. See the yes list. 
  • All cheese - except pasture raised goat. 
  • Ricotta
  • Cottage cheese


Grains and Grasses:

  • Wheat - is very bad for you!
  • Corn - is very bad for you!
  • All corn products
  • Einkorn wheat
  • Kamut
  • Oats
  • Quinoa
  • Rye
  • Bulgur
  • All rice - white is better than brown.
  • Barley
  • Buckwheat
  • Kashi
  • Spelt
  • Cornstarch
  • Corn syrup
  • Popcorn
  • Wheatgrass
  • Barley grass


Oils:

Seed oils can cause major inflammatory issues throughout the body. They were  actually never created for human consumption, but for lubricating industrial machinery.  These oils are now in almost all processed foods.   

  • Canola - is very bad for you!
  • Soy
  • Grape seed
  • Corn
  • Peanut
  • Cottonseed
  • Safflower
  • Sunflower
  • All Vegetable oils
